Santa Maria
Far out in the Atlantic there is a forgotten island world: the Azores. Nine beautiful, emerald islands.
Everbody knows the Canaries, Madeira and even the Cape Verde islands ... But the Azores, where are they? You might think a benign wizard has thrown a veil over the islands to protect them from the world. The Azores are still among the best kept secrets in Europe.
It is never too cold or too hot and the islands are lush with flowers all through the year, thanks to the warm waters surrounding the islands. These deep-blue waters are the home of dolphins, whales and many other creatures from the sea. The people of the islands are friendly, with a zest for life and always ready to welcome a stranger.
Santa Maria. Even if you do find your way to the Azores, you might not find this pearl in the Ocean, the “Island in the Sun” as the Azorians call her. She has almost made herself invisible, hiding way down south of the other islands. But she is a gem in the ocean, a Paradise on Earth if there ever was one. Santa Maria, renowned for the best weather among all the Azores islands, is where the Azorians go for a holiday (but they won't tell anyone). She is one of the ‘small islands’ but bigger than you think, which is one of her secrets.
